The AN/PEQ-4/4A is the US Army type-classified illuminator originally designed for night vision crew-served weapons applications. The AN/PEQ-4/4A has also been used extensively for forward air control (FAC), close air support (CAS) and forward observer (FO) applications.
The AN/PEQ-4/4A has a focusable near-IR laser that emits at a choice of three different power levels and laser wave pulse widths based on the immediate tactical needs and environmental conditions. The AN/PEQ-4/4A has integral ballistic adjusters and a MIL-STD-1913 rail grabber to allow mounting to weapons, vehicles, and airframes. The MPLI can be handheld or remotely activated depending on application.
The AN/PEQ-4/4A can be operated on six AA batteries, three 123A batteries or on vehicle power (AN/ PEQ-4A) in the case of Iight armored vehicles or rotary wing air frames.
